Each year the State
sponsoring the ASG Conference selects the national Community Service
Project for all of our Chapters across the nation. In 2009 the
Conference will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Chapters
in New Mexico have selected children's pillowcases for Ronald McDonald
House in Albuquerque as the community service project. Chapters
can also make pillowcases for local Ronald McDonald houses (Washington
has one in Seattle and one in Spokane.)
While pillowcases are
relatively easy to make, there is one style that has caught on with
many sewers: the "burrito" style pillow case. Lynne Gibbs
has provided a link to a very good set of instructions offered by the
University of Utah Extension service. Click on this link:
http://extension.usu.edu/files/publications/publication/FL_ST_Construction_2006-102pr.pdf
The instructions include a
plain border and a border with trim. The border with trim is
described starting on Page 5 of the instructions. We would
advise reading through the instructions before starting a case if you
haven't made one before. The instructions also tell you how much
fabric you would need each size (standard, queen, and king).
We have been asked to
provide standard size cases in
100% cotton fabrics in children's
or other brightly colored prints and brightly colored solids and plaids
Lynne will be providing
additional information / instruction at Spring Fling in April if you
need some moral support.
